A WORD FROM THE JURY

003 Ziriranje Salon stripa 2016This year’s contest of the International comics festival was marked by a continuity and by a peculiarity. The continuity is reflected in the rise of the number of the participants. In total, 325 participants from 33 countries sent entries to the fourteenth contest organized by Student Cultural Center, Belgrade.  The list of the countries from which the comics arrived is now enriched by Moldavia. The peculiarity is revealed in the fact that a significantly larger number of ladies were among the participants. Due to the sensibility and quality of their works, the Festival shined in new splendor. Therefore, it is not accidental that this year's Grand Prix went into the hands of a lady.
The jury was faced with unrewarding, and by no means an easy task, to select just a few of the multitude of various visual manuscripts and contents. Therefore, on behalf of all the members of the jury, I wish to remind you of something that I find very important. The purpose of artistic awards is not a celebration of an individual, but the artistic media as a whole. There is something in these awards that to some extent contradicts the very essence of art. Art is not a competitive discipline. Achievements of an artist, no matter how exalted they are, do not devalue the efforts of his colleagues in a way such as it is in sports. The authors are not mutual competitors, but comrades in a common struggle for beauty. In this struggle there are neither defeated, nor victors, but only winners. And the winners are all those who through their work embody the beauty of art, as well as all of us who enjoy their work.
